Former MLA Ashok Veer Vikram Singh alias Bhaiyya Raja, the uncrowned king of deeply feudal Chhattarpur,is the uncle of Chhattarpur lawyer Mrigendra Singh, the father of Vasundhara Bundela, who was murdered in 2009.

Singh was elected to the Madhya Pradesh assembly as an independent, and had been associated with the BJP at the time of his arrest three and a half years ago. His wife Asharani,a sitting BJP MLA,spent a few months in prison after being charged with driving the couple’s maid to suicide. There are several cases against Singh.

Besides Singh,Additional Sessions Judge S Kalgaonkar also gave life terms to his driver Bhupendra Singh alias Halke, another employee Abhimanyu and one Pankaj Shukla for the 21-year-old Vasundhara’s murder.

Singh, who appeared tense inside the courtroom, showed no remorse while leaving the premises where many of his relatives and supporters had gathered.

The prosecution said Halke had shot Vasundhara on Singh’s orders while driving her to her hostel in Bhopal’s M P Nagar from his employer’s bungalow in the Kolar area. Police had found the murder weapon in Singh’s Chhattarpur home.
