Exams a fortnight away,PSEB yet to provide books

Even as the first semester exams under the open school system in Classes X and XII are due to start from September 6,the students are yet to receive books from the Punjab School Education Board.

Even as the first semester exams under the open school system in Classes X and XII are due to start from September 6,the students are yet to receive books from the Punjab School Education Board. The PSEB is supposed to provide books free of cost to students enrolled under the open school system. Interestingly,most of these books are yet to arrive from the printing press.

Talking to Newsline,Rajinder Sharma,president,Association of PSEB Affiliated Schools,said: “The books of general punjabi,general english,business studies,accounts,economics,physical education,computer and environmental science have not been issued yet by the PSEB. As the exams are fast approaching,we have no option,but to buy books from the market.”

A school teacher added: “The books of mathematics,science,punjabi,physical education,computer and agriculture for Class X have not been provided by the PSEB. We have no option,but to teach students from photocopied notes or through books of private publishers.” Anil Sharma,district manager,PSEB depot,said: “I also called up the Mohali office today to know the status of the books. I learnt that they are still at the printing press. I am waiting for the books as the exams are near.”
