The Election Commission Friday rejected SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s vote in the Presidential poll and directed the Returning Officer not to count it.

“The second ballot paper issued to Mulayam Singh Yadav may not be taken up for counting. It may also be added that the first ballot paper issued to Mulayam Singh Yadav cannot be counted as the secrecy of ballot was violated,” the commission said in response to the objection filed by Opposition candidate PA Sangma’s representative Satya Pal Jain.

Yadav, who had pledged his party’s support to UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee, tore up his ballot paper after realising he had mistakenly voted for Sangma. The RO then issued him a new ballot paper. But Sangma’s representative objected and complained to the EC.
