Deepening the crisis that has engulfed the CPMs state unit after the murder of rebel leader T P Chandrasekharan on May 4,senior leader and former chief minister V S Achuthanandan has written to the central leadership that he does not want to continue as the Leader of the Opposition. Gunning at his rival and state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan,VS wants a change of guard in the partys state leadership.
In a three-page letter sent to party general secretary Prakash Karat,VS has said that party leadership was involved in the murder of Chandrasekharan and the killer politics would wreck the party. The party is being deserted by cadres due to the Right-wing deviation happening under the leadership of Vijayan and at this juncture, there is no sense in continuing as the Leader of the Opposition,he has written. He has said the workers have lost faith in the leadership after the murder of Chandrasekharan, who floated the Revolutionary Marxist Party. Decisions are being foisted on the party as the opinion of the majority,he has said. Expressing his resentment over being sidelined in the party,VS has sought a revamp of the state secretariat and the state committee.
Last week,VS had said that the situation in the party state unit was similar to that of 1964 when the Communist Party had split. Indicating that he did not mind being thrown out of the party,VS had said Vijayan was behaving like S A Dange, chairman of the Communist Party at the time of the split.
VS Letter a media creation
Kasargod: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday described as a creation of the media a letter reportedly written by V S Achuthanandan to the
party central leadership, stating that he was not interested
in continuing as the Leader of Opposition.
It is a creation of the media. The fake campaign has been spread with an aim at the forthcoming Neyyattinkara bypoll. The central leadership is not aware of any such letter, Vijayan said.
