Samajwadi Party leader and Uttar Pradesh chief minister designate Akhilesh Yadav today dismissed speculations of mid-term polls for the Lok Sabha, and said his partys priority was UP and not a third front.
Who wants mid-term polls? I do not know from where these talks have begun. SP does not want mid-term polls. We are supporting Congress at the Centre, Akhilesh told The Indian Express on the first day of the Budget Session of Parliament on Monday.
On whether a third front was on the SPs priority list,he replied: Our (SPs) priority is Uttar Pradesh, not a third front.
However,he did not reject the idea of the front. If the new politics is shaping up (at the Centre),let that happen, he said,on speculation of the emergence of a third front at the Centre.
It is a big challenge to execute and deliver the promises we made. I have to be vigilant, any slip will damage my (political) career. I know this too well,I have to keep the promises and responsibility bestowed on me, said Akhilesh.
He also made light of the invitations sent to political party leaders and non-Congress chief ministers for his swearing-in ceremony, saying that this was a routine affair.
While Akhilesh represents the Kannauj LS seat at present,he said he would not contest Assembly elections and would opt for the Legislative Council instead. I will become an MLC, he said, replying to a question on which Assembly seat he would choose.
