Expressing disappointment over the alleged neglect by the Centre towards issues faced by Tamil Nadu,Opposition DMDK has decided to boycott the presidential polls to mark its protest.

Party founder-leader and Opposition Leader Vijayakant cited the water sharing disputes with neighbouring states, the trouble faced by the fishermen at the hands of the Sri Lankan Navy and other such issues faced by the people of Tamil Nadu to justify his party’s decision to stay away from the exercise to elect the next President.

Tamil language,Tamil Nadu and the Tamils were being neglected by the Government of India,he said in a statement on Tuesday. “Every time there is an election, the voters in Tamil Nadu take part without fail. But what is the use? Each and every time, the people are being let down. As no steps have been taken to redress the issues faced by Tamil Nadu for several decades, there is no use in electing any person as the President,” said Vijayakant.
