Taking the fight to the BJP on Saturday,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and senior cabinet colleagues issued a point-by-point rebuttal of the Oppositions charges against the government. The Congress rebuttal focused on womens safety, water, electricity, education and corruption.
The battle lines seem clearly drawn as Assembly elections draw closer. The Congress on Saturday asserted that the BJP was only interested in returning to power in Delhi after 15 years and was misleading people on important issues. The rebuttal was made at Dikshits residence by Cabinet ministers Haroon Yusuf,Raj Kumar Chauhan and Arvinder Singh Lovely.
Taking on Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goels demand for an accountability commission to probe allegations of corruption against Dikshit,Lovely said,If they are so serious about the accountability commission why dont they set it up in MCD ruled by them (BJP). They can get the motion passed in the house.
Meanwhile,Power Minister Yusuf maintained that the BJP promise of a 30 per cent cut in tariff rates was improbable. They say power rates have increased by 300 per cent under Congress rule, which is baseless. The cost of procuring electricity has increased from Rs 1.50 per unit in 2002 to Rs 6.80 in 2012/13, Yusuf said.
He said power tariffs were set by Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission and not the government.
Referring to the BJPs allegations about water shortages in the national capital,PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan said that 95 per cent of people in Delhi get clean water.
Lovely claimed that BJP distorted facts about government spending on 2010 Commonwealth Games.
