Day after,report blames ‘firearm head injury’

NRHM SCAM: CBI questions Chief Medical Supdts,UP Jal Nigam official

The postmortem report of Jal Nigam engineer Sunil Kumar Verma,an accused in the NRHM scam case who reportedly shot himself in the head yesterday,attributed his death to “coma as a result of ante-mortem firearm head injury”.

The postmortem was conducted at the CSM Medical University by a panel of two doctors on Tuesday. The body was later handed over to the family. “The postmortem was videographed”,said Lucknow DIG DK Thakur.

The police said Verma’s viscera had been preserved and his fingerprints taken for matching with those on his licensed revolver that he is believed to have used to commit suicide.

An assistant engineer with the Construction and Design Services of Jal Nigam,Verma was found dead at his residence in Lucknow. His family said Verma had been upset since the CBI,which is investigating the multi-crore fraud in funds released for health schemes,searched his residence on January 4. A suicide note was found that said he had done no wrong and nobody in his family or department should be held responsible for his action.

The CBI,meanwhile,questioned former chief medical superintendent,Ghaziabad,Sehdev Ballian,and the present CMS,Ghaziabad,P K Shukla,on Tuesday.

It also examined the chief general manager of UP Jal Nigam,Bharat Singh,who is named as an accused in the first FIR registered by the agency.
