Date clash may impact voting in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: While the Election Commission clarified that religious matters will not be allowed to affect the polls, voting in Chhattisgarh is likely to be impacted by a religious belief. November 19,the date of the second phase of polling,is considered auspicious for marriage according to the Hindu calendar. Buses, cabs and hotels have already been booked well in advance. In such a situation, parties and the administration are worried that the voting percentage may take a hit. As many as 73 constituencies will vote on that day.

BJP,Cong exchange barbs,EC in crossfire

The Election Commission in Chhattisgarh is facing curious election complaints and accusations by both the BJP and Congress. The parties spare no attempt to accuse each other of code violation. Often, the Commission finds the complaints without substance and rejects them, which then becomes another matter of accusation as these parties then blame the election panel of being the agent of its rival party. “These pressure tactics help keep the rivals on leash,” said a leader, who did not want to be named.
