Two days after he killed six of his colleagues in Jharkhand before being shot dead, the body of slain CRPF constable Harpinder Singh will reach his native place in Baba Bakala on Monday. In an inebriated state,Harpinder went on a killing spree with his service AK-47 rifle and shot his colleagues dead at a camp near Kuchai in Saraikela district of Jharkhand on Saturday.

Harpinder’s wife Tejinder Kaur, his three children and father Ajaib Singh are in a state of shock.

“After a month-long leave,he was happy to rejoin duty last month. He was, however, upset over the killing of some of his colleagues by Naxals,” said Kaur, adding she could never imagine her husband taking such a step.

Harpinder had joined the CRPF two decades ago and was recently promoted as Havaldar. Adding that the death of the only earning member in the family has come as a severe jolt,Kaur said: “Sometimes he got upset, but he was never violent.”

SSP (Rural) Amritsar Gurmit Singh Chauhan said the CRPF authorities were yet to contact the local police for details of the slain constable. “We learnt from our sources that his body will be handed over to the family on Monday.”
