The court hearing the defamation case against former Army Chief Gen V K Singh and four serving senior Army officers has reserved its order on an application filed by complainant Lt Gen Tejinder Singh (retd) requesting that the bail granted to the five accused be cancelled.

Tejinder’s counsel Anil Aggarwal told the court that since four of the accused — Vice Chief of Army Staff S K Singh,DG Military Intelligence Lt Gen B S Thakur,Additional DG Public Information Major General S L Narshiman and Col Hitten Sawhney — were senior serving officers, they had access to the evidence in the case and could tamper it.

Tejinder had alleged he was defamed by the Army through its press release issued on March 5,which accused him of offering a bribe of Rs 14 crore to the then Army Chief to clear a deal of 600 trucks,a charge refuted by him.

However,Sidharth Agarwal, the counsel for the serving Army officials, said his clients had done nothing to violate the terms of the bail bond.
