Separatist leader Yasin Malik will not be allowed to hold a 48-hour fast at Jantar Mantar to protest the hanging of Afzal Guru.

The JKLF chief had sought permission for his fast, and his application was forwarded to the DCP of New Delhi. Senior Delhi Police officials held a meeting at the police headquarters after which his application was rejected. This was confirmed by Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar.

Sources said that as soon as Yasin Malik announced his fast, right wing groups too sought permission to hold a fast against him at the same venue. The Home Ministry had sought a report from the police on Malik’s proposed fast.

The police feared the law and order situation will break down in the Capital if he is allowed to stage protest.
