At least one personnel of the elite anti-Naxal force Greyhound has gone missing after Tuesday’s encounter in south Chhattisgarh in which nine Maoists were killed.

“We have lost contact with Shiv Prasad Babu. Our rescue teams are still in the area. A search is on,” a senior officer of the Andhra police told The Indian Express.

Earlier, six personnel were reported to be missing but five reached Khammam safely later. While there is no official confirmation from the Maoists yet, reports indicate that the rebels had held Babu hostage. On Wednesday, the Maoists had opened fire at an Mi-17 helicopter that was on a rescue mission.

“Earlier we were limited to one-two km near the border. Now we have decided to penetrate up to 20-25 km for cadres operating in Andhra Pradesh,” Khammam SP A V Ranganath said.
