Joint Commissioner (Crime) of Kolkata Police Damayanti Sen,who was leading the Park Street rape case probe, has been transferred to a relatively low-profile posting. She goes as DIG (Training),Barrackpore Police Training College.

In a major police reshuffle announced on Wednesday, another woman officer, however, got a position of eminence. Bharati Ghosh will be the first woman IPS officer in the state to be posted as the SP,Jhargram,in the Junglemahal region.

The West Bengal Police Establishment Board had on Tuesday proposed transfer of Sen and 57 other IPS officers. CM Mamata Banerjee gave her nod to the proposals.

A section of officers said Sen’s transfer might affect the investigation in the rape case. Though the state called Sen’s transfer a routing affair, senior IPS officers said the “upright officer” had to pay the price for contradicting the CM and the Commissioner.
