Conjoined twins born in Tonk district on July 24 breathed their last on Monday afternoon. The twins had a medical condition termed Dicephalic Parapagus and was said to be the second such reported case in the country. In the first such case in Jabalpur, the conjoined twins had died within hours of its birth while the baby brought to JK Lone Hospital last Wednesday survived over five days.
Hospital authorities said that the twins had severe difficulty in breathing right from the beginning and had to be put on ventilator but could not be saved.
The twins were born to a couple in Tonk following a caesarean section at 4 am on last Wednesday. Due to poor medical facilities, the condition could not be detected during sonography tests.
The twins had two heads on a single body with two arms and two legs. Doctors said that X-rays revealed two spinal cords and thereby two nervous systems. The heads reacted differently to touch on either side of the limbs.
