Maharashtra plans to allow cluster development

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has said the government plans to allow cluster-development of dangerous and illegal buildings,which will enable existing residents to get 300 sq ft dwellings. A policy decision to this effect will be announced next month. The first such initiative is proposed in Thane. The policy is reported to be in the final stages,and would be applicable all over the state. According to the proposal,the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) or any other authority can acquire the dangerous and illegal buildings for re-development through private participation or residents of these buildings can themselves prepare a re-development plan,which can be considered by the government.

CIDCO proposes to develop Thane areas as mega-cities

The Maharashtra government-owned City and Industrial Development Corporation has proposed to develop certain areas of Thane district as mega-cities. Presently,CIDCO is operating in Navi Mumbai and certain parts of Raigad district. The work of developing new towns in the Navi Mumbai region is almost getting over and the only major work left is the development of the new international airport,for which certain permissions are yet to be received,CIDCO said. The corporation would concentrate on spreading its activities in Kalyan Rural,Shahapur and Murbad areas of Thane district and if the work is handed over,the corporation aims at setting up world-class cities in the region.

Godrej Properties to develop township in Panvel

Godrej Properties (GPL) has entered into a joint venture agreement to develop a premium residential township project in Panvel. The project,spread across 110 acres,will be developed on a joint venture basis under which,GPL will receive 35 per cent of profits from the development. The project,which will have an estimated saleable area of 3.5 million square feet,is expected to be launched in 2013 and is scheduled to be completed within six years. The project is located between NH-4 and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
