Four of six lakes now overflowing
Vihar lake,one of the key sources of water for the city,started overflowing Thursday after continuous rain raised the level 0.31 metres in a day. Lakes Tulsi,Modaksagar and Tansa were already overflowing,but Upper Vaitarna and Bhatsa dam have some way to go.

Constable tries to kill self at ONGC
A constable with the Dharavi police station was critical after he fired a bullet into his head while on duty on the ONGC premises. Sarjerao Jadhav,40,had rejoined duty recently after leave; he shot himself with his self-loading rifle. The reason is being probed,said Vineet Agarwal,Addl CP (Central).

Runway shuts but flights unaffected
The city airport’s main runway was closed for half an hour during evening peak hours because of repairs. It did not affect flights because the secondary runways were used between 5.30 and 5.58 pm,MIAL said.

Flyover work halts for Ganesh festival
From August 30 to September 23,work on the Lalbaug flyover will halt in view of the Ganesh festival,the MMRDA said. The Lalbaugcha Raja mandal attracts an estimated 15 lakh devotees per day during the festival.
