The BJP latched on to sting operation reports that suggested local police were under pressure during the Muzaffarnagar riots, from minister Azam Khan, and demanded the Central government to take action against the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh.

Khan has denied the allegations.

“The expose by a news channel about the riots in Muzaffarnagar is serious, sensitive and a matter of concern for democracy. It proves beyond doubt who is behind the riots. The SP government was involved in events and had a politically motivated, lopsided view of the whole issue,” BJP spokesperson Sudanshu Trivedi said referring to a sting operation where two police personnel purportedly claimed Khan pressurised inaction against the initial violence.

“BJP demands that the UPA government takes effective and stern action against the SP government. Effective legal action should also be taken against those involved irrespective of stature in government,” Trivedi demanded on Wednesday.

The BJP spokesperson,in this context, accused the Congress-leadership of being biased.

“During their visit to the riot-affected area, the Prime Minister and the UP Chief Minister met only some sections of people and it was clearly visible they have a lopsided view and their visit was politically motivated,” said the BJP spokesperson.
