CITI asks for release of cotton by govt agencies

The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) has sought commerce minister Anand Sharma’s intervention in directing the procurement agencies to release cotton in the market to help contain the rising prices of the fibre. CITI,in a letter to Sharma,who holds additional charge of textiles ministry,said about 25 lakh bales of cotton are currently held by the Cotton Corporation of India and other procurement agencies.

“We would request that the agencies may be directed to augment cotton availability … by releasing all the quantities held by them to the market immediately,” it said.
