Leader OF Opposition Ajay Singh has landed in legal trouble for equating Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s wife Sadhna Singh with a machine that counts currency.

The couple has served a legal notice on Singh through a Delhi-based firm, asking him to apologise within seven days for leveling “unsubstantiated and false” allegations that caused “irreparable reputational loss, trauma and agony”.

At different public meetings as part of his Parivartan Yatra in Sagar and Khargone on May 9 and June 4,Singh accused Sadhna Singh of corruption and the couple of promoting illegal sand mining. The statement had been widely reported by the local media.

The notice said though to some extent, the comments could be understood coming from a political rival and born out of political compulsions,Singh had stooped low while leveling false and concocted allegations. “All your imputations are nothing but a bundle of lies and figment of your imagination and fantasies.’’

Newspapers had reported Singh as saying,“Chouhan had taken a vow to remain unmarried all his life. However, after making a mark in politics he got for himself a currency counting machine in the form of Sadhna Singh. Illegal mining will hasten BJP’s fall.’’

Singh said he was yet to receive the notice and alleged that it had been prompted by his recent letter to Chouhan seeking declaration of properties earned by his close relatives in the last decade and another letter that accused Chouhan of using his clout to remove a file from official records that proved his brother was a government contractor.
