PLEASE don’t reduce it to an ice-cream parlour,” Chef Anthony David corrected us before we flashed that sweet tooth. “Haagen-Dazs is a fine-dining experience,a dessert lounge,” said the chef,as he opened doors to the Haagen-Dazs flagship lounge at Elante Mall earlier this week. Sweet buttery scoops, swirled with ribbons of golden caramel, layers of smooth chocolate, fruity strawberries, dollops of cookies and cream greeted us. From branded ice-creams to guilt-free gelatos,Chandigarh eateries offer many options these days, and the indulgence continues with this new arrival. According to a global survey undertaken by Haagen-Dazs,their target consumer is the young independent youth, primarily the empowered, working women in their twenties and thirties. “Our major chunk of consumers are young women who can sip shakes and dig into ice creams and sorbets for hours,” said David, country chef for the brand. The plush interiors apart, the crowd puller here is an elaborate menu. There’s a huge variety in terms of flavours and authentic ingredients that find their way in the desserts. Choose from the likes of Fondue,Banana Spilt,Cookies & Cream,Macadamia Nut,Dulce De Leche and Raspberry sorbet. We recommend the signature scoop of Belgian Chocolate. Taking inspiration from European,Oriental and Indian cuisines,a “Taste the World” section of the menu offers international desserts as well as a patisserie menu. A scoop here will cost an expensive Rs 210.
