In the midst of waging a political battle against the ruling AIADMK,the PMK obtained a temporary relief after the Home Ministry on Monday revoked the detention 20 of persons, including party founder-leader S Ramadoss’s right-hand man J Gurunathan, under the National Security Act (NSA). Gurunathan alias ‘Kaduvetti’ Guru is the president of Vanniyar Sangam.

The PMK’s politics had taken a casteist turn which first led to violence in Dharmapuri last year and then clashes at Marakkanam earlier this year. Many leaders, including Ramadoss and party president G K Mani, were arrested in the aftermath, and 122 of them were detained under the provisions of the NSA and the Goondas Act.

The party members approached the courts and the Centre thereafter. Dealing a blow to the authorities here, the Centre ordered that Gurunathan’s detention be revoked.
