The CBI probing charges under the Official Secrets Act against arms dealer Abhishek Verma will name him in the new FIR which is likely to be filed on Wednesday.

The agency is also likely to name unknown officials of the Ministry of Defence for the alleged leakage of classified documents.

The move to name Verma comes after the agency sought a legal opinion since the classified documents were not recovered from Verma. Sources said that Verma’s former escrow fund manager C Edmonds Allen’s complaint to the CBI will be the basis of linking the classified documents to Verma. Allen has alleged that Verma supplied him documents containing secret details of defence procurement and acquisition plan. The CBI will also carry out raids on Verma and his associates.

The agency recently received a formal complaint from the MoD asking it to probe the alleged leakage of classified documents. The ministry claimed that ‘seven’ of the documents in alleged possession of Verma’s associates were classified and should be ‘examined’.
