Cabinet Secy gets one-year extension

The Cabinet Committee on Appointments headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh approved the extension till June 13 next year,an official release said.

With just about a year left for the UPA’s term to end,the government on Monday decided in favour of continuity by giving a one-year extension to Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth. Seth,a 1974 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre officer,was due to complete his two-year term next month.

The Cabinet Committee on Appointments headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh approved the extension till June 13 next year,an official release said. Seth,who is the 30th Cabinet Secretary,has served in various key positions in the UP government and at the Centre and is known as a low key bureaucrat who is a stickler for rules.

His predecessor K M Chandrashekhar,who retired in June 2011 after his two-year term,had also been given one-year extensions twice — 2009 and 2010. Chandrashekhar served as Cabinet Secretary for four years.
