From peace clause to war of words

As India held its ground on food security at the WTO ministerial conference, the EU and the US moved from offering ‘peace clause’ to dire warnings. The EU Parliamentary delegation threatened that India could be taken to the WTO dispute settlement body for breaching the mandated 10 per cent food subsidy cap, while a section of US lobby groups indicated Indian business delegations that investments to the country could dry up if the deal did not go through. “They said that the US has done so much for India,be it in the area of visas or work permits,so we should also listen to their demands now. Without a compromise at Bali, investments to India could dry up,” said a person privy to the development.
