The government today said directions have been issued by sectoral regulator Trai to telecom operators for delivering broadband services in a transparent manner by providing adequate information about various plans under fair usage policy.
“Trai had issued direction on July 27,2012 to service providers for delivering broadband services in a transparent manner by providing adequate information to the broadband consumers about various plans offered under Fair Usage Policy (FUP),” Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Milind Deora said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.
Deora said telecom operators have been directed,inter-alia,to ensure that speed of broadband connection in all broadband tariff plans is not reduced below the minimum speed specified.
They have also been asked to provide alerts to consumers when their data usage reaches 80 per cent and 100 per cent of the data usage limit bundled with the plan.
“Some of the service providers have started providing the information to their consumers as per the tariff plans submitted to Trai. Service providers have also started providing the information through their website,” he added.
Telecom operators have to comply with the provisions that require all service providers to report to Trai about new tariff plan or any changes in the existing plans within seven days from the date of implementation of the said tariff order.
