Popular Philippine communist dead
Manila: Gregorio Comrade Roger Rosal,a popular Mao cap-wearing Filipino guerrilla,who gave a voice and face to one of Asias longest-running Marxist insurgencies as the spokesman of the outlawed Communist Party of Philippines died of a heart attack on Sunday. He was 64. While it hunted Rosal for years,the military offered its condolences,saying it had offered medical help after news of Rosals failing health. He turned down the offer.
Afghan MP says will fast till probe starts
KABUL: Ousted Afghan lawmaker Simeen Barakzai said she will not end her hunger strike,which entered the 8th day Sunday,until President Hamid Karzai opens a probe into vote fraud by the woman who has taken her seat in parliament. Barakzai is one of nine lawmakers removed as part of a compromise that was meant to end the saga and let parliamentarians get to work.
Pak girls beaten over dresses: Report
Islamabad: Some sixty masked men wielding iron rods allegedly barged into a girls school in Rawalpindi on Friday and beat up students and teachers for being dressed inappropriately,The Express Tribune reported Sunday. They also warned teachers and students at MC Model Girls High School to dress modestly and wear hijabs or face the consequences,the report added.
Protesters storm Syria embassy in Germany
BERLIN: Police say a group of protesters has stormed the Syrian embassy in Germanys capital in what appeared to be a protest against the killing of a Kurdish opposition leader.
Berlin police spokeswoman said the 24 protesters tore down the fence and managed to enter the building where they caused some damage to paintings and furniture.
Eight from Bangla executed in S Arabia
DUBAI: Eight Bangladeshi nationals have been beheaded in Saudi Arabia for their role in an armed robbery at a Riyadh warehouse in which an Egyptian security guard was killed,an Interior Ministry statement said on the execution that took place on Friday.
