ROME: The founder of a populist,Italian anti-immigrant party,whose support kept Silvio Berlusconi in power,resigned Thursday amid a widening corruption scandal over party funds. Umberto Bossi tendered his resignation as Northern League secretary and repeatedly rebuffed pleas by his colleagues to change his mind,said a League statement.

ALGIERS: Algerias foreign minister says the countrys consul in the northern Malian city of Gao and six of his employees have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen. Mourad Medelci told the state news agency Thursday that the seven were forced to leave the Algerian Consulate in Gao.
Time for diplomacy not infinite: Clinton
Washington: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has warned Iran that the time for diplomacy is not infinite and all options are on the table to stop it from acquiring a nuclear weapon. There is still time and space to pursue the objectives through diplomacy. We want to see a peaceful resolution of the international communitys concerns, Clinton told reporters. But the time for diplomacy is not infinite, she said. We are not interested in talks for the sake of talks. We want to engage in serious discussions that will lead to concrete results, she added.
