EC replaces Manipur DGP
NEW DELHI: Ahead of the Assembly elections in Manipur,the Election Commission on Thursday decided to change the DGP of Manipur after the Commission reviewed election preparations in the state. Ratnakar Baral has taken over as the new DGP.
In another major decision,the EC has ordered that photographs of all voters shall be taken after their fingers are marked with indelible ink.
Akhilesh lands in row over remarks
LUCKNOW: SP state president Akhilesh Yadav landed in a controversy on Thursday when he said at a public meeting that people who consumed alcohol were the real campaigners of the party.
Akhilesh said along with prices of petrol and diesel,even the prices of sham ki dawa (evening medicine) had shot up. He said those who consumed sham ki dawa said the SP is winning the polls and thus,they were the partys real campaigners.
EC scraps Goa order on appointments
The Election Commission has put a spanner in Goa governments drive of doling out jobs even as the model code of conduct is already in force for the March 3 Assembly polls.
The state Chief Electoral Officer has put on hold the order sanctioning around 400-odd recruitments and has also warned of appropriate action against the respective heads of departments. Altogether 416 appointment orders given by six government departments post-December 24,when the code of conduct came into force,are declared null and void, said Joint Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti.
As per the data available with EC,intensive appointments were being done in the Animal Husbandry department which filled 141 posts,followed by Electricity department which recruited 127 people and 118 in police department.
Ibobi,ministers in Cong first list
The ruling Congress on Thursday released a list of candidates for all the 60 seats of the state for the Assembly elections. While Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has been nominated to contest from his home constituency of Thoubal,many of his ministers have also been renominated.
