Three killed in Assam landslide
GUWAHATI: Three persons,including two children,died when their house collapsed in a landslide following heavy rain in the Lokhra area of the city on Friday. The family of one Sisoram Choudhury of Lalunggaon was trapped in the house on Thursday evening when his brother Nimai,six-year-old son Rahul and three-year-old Anuj Baishya were killed,the police said.
Former BSP MLA among 3 arrested
BIJNORE: Three persons,including Ashok Rana former BSP MLA from Dhampur were arrested for abducting Subodh Sharma,a petrol pump owner and assaulting the police party which went to his rescue. Rana and two of his relatives were arrested from Nathaur town on Friday morning. Rana abducted Sharma on June 5 after a fallout in business,Harendra Yadav,Circle Officer Dhampur said,adding that Ranas supporters injured nine policemen when they came to the victims rescue.
One killed in bomb explosion in MP
MHOW: A 12-year-old girl was killed and five other children seriously injured when a crude bomb exploded near Gopalpura village of Mhow tehsil in the Armys Hema field firing area. The children were grazing their cattle and playing when they found a defused bomb and tried to open it. The explosion killed the victim and left five others seriously injured by splinters. A passerby heard the explosion and took the children to the Mhow civil hospital.
Fire claims one,destroys property
ALLAHABAD: A 45-year-old woman was charred to death and property worth lakhs destroyed in a fire that broke out in an automobile spare parts shop on Sardar Patel Marg,the police said. The fire,caused by a short circuit broke out at around 2.30 am in the shop,and engulfed a number of adjoining commercial establishments.The victim lived in a house in the backyard of the shop,owned by her brother,the police said.
Superstition claims three in Jharkhand
GUMLA: A 65-year-old man and his two sons were killed by unknown men after being branded as witchcraft practitioners at Khaira village in Gumla district,police sources said on Friday. The assailants pulled out the three men from their home and struck them with axes till they died,Sub-divisional police officer Chandan Kumar Sinha told reporters.
The superstition of witchcraft claims at least one victim on
an average every month in the district.
2 CPM men surrender in murder case
Two CPM leaders from Kannur,listed as accused by the CBI in the murder of a former party worker,on Friday surrendered before the chief judicial magistrate court in Kochi.
CPM Kannur district secretariat member Karayi Rajan and an area committee member,Karayi Chandrasekharan,were absconding for the past three weeks after the CBI found that they had allegedly conspired and hired a gang to kill Muhammed Fazal,who had left the CPM to join right-wing Muslim outfit Popular Front of India.
On Thursday,the CBI had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the two CPM leaders. The high court had earlier rejected their anticipatory bail applications. On Friday,the magistrate court remanded them in judicial custody.
