Sadhvi Pragya moves HC for bail
MUMBAI: Sadhvi Pragya Singh,one of the accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case,has approached the Bombay High Court seeking bail on health grounds. Singhs brother-in-law Bhagwan Jha had claimed,at a press conference on July 11,that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer,which is in its third stage. The bail application has been posted for hearing on Wednesday.
Jharkhand: Man with explosives arrested
CHANDIL: A driver,Manoj Kumar Sinha,was arrested after 200 detonator pieces and 50 kg of ammonium nitrate were allegedly found in his car,on National Highway 33 in Jharkhands Seraikela-Kharswan district,on Monday. Sinha claimed he had a crusher machine and the explosives were to be used for industrial purposes. Another person in the car escaped,the police added.
Cop suspended for sexual exploitation
BARIPADA: A police official was suspended for alleged sexual exploitation of a tribal woman in Orissas Mayurbhanj district on Monday. The 25-year-old woman lodged an FIR against Subhendu Behera,an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) under Rairangpur police station on Sunday,accusing him of sexually abusing her since June 29,the police said. The absconding ASI is being traced,the police said.
Court rejects Zakia plea
Ahmedabad: A Metropolitan Court in Ahmedabad on Monday rejected Zakia Jafris plea seeking permission to allow activist Teesta Setalvad to examine on her behalf the original closure report filed by Special Investigation Team (SIT) that probed her complaint alleging that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and 62 others played a role in the post-Godhra riots.
