S African Indian man dies after ‘racist’ attack

JOHANNESBURG: An Indian-origin Muslim man in South Africa was allegedly beaten to death by two persons who made racial taunts against him because of his beard. The two white men allegedly made religious and racial taunts against Mohd Fayaz Kazi,who was dressed in traditional Muslim dress and had a beard. “They called us ‘Bin Laden’ and ‘coolies’ while we were in a store to buy food to end our daily fast during Ramzan,” said Kazi’s friend Ansar Mahmood. When Kazi,33,and Mahmood objected to the taunts a fight broke out among them. Mahmood was hit in the face,while Kazi was beaten on the head. Later Kazi was taken to hospital where he died of injuries.

31 die in Meghalaya bus accident

SHILLONG: At least 31 people were killed and 27 critically injured when a Tripura-bound bus fell into an 80-foot-deep gorge in East Jaintia Hills district on Wednesday. This occurred between 3 am and 5 am at Tamseng village along NH 44. The bus driver also died in the accident. The police said drink driving or landslide could be the reason for the mishap.

Undertrial throws sandal at judge

But the sandal missed the judge. Chhabi Das (45),present in the court during the examination of witnesses,suddenly picked up a sandal and hurled it at Rajendra Kumar Tosh.

J&K: Sarpanch held for mosque killing

SRINAGAR: The J&K Police have arrested two persons —Mohammad Subhan Wani,a National Conference sarpanch,and Ali Mohammad Sheikh — for the murder of a youth during a clash at a Ganderbal mosque on Monday. Jamat-e-Islami alleged the attack was carried out by the ruling party’s activists because of “their political grudge with Jamat-e-Islami”.
