Property seized after owners found ‘aiding’ militants

SRINAGAR: An investigating officer in the presence of revenue authorities on Saturday seized nearly two acres of land in Sopore after its owners,Abdul Razaq Lone and his son Abdul Hamid Lone,were found funding militants. Abdul Majeed Lone,brother of Abdul Hamid,is a member of the militant group,Hizbul Mujahideen. The house of the wife of Hurriyat Conference leader Ghulam Mohammad Khan was also sealed in the city.

33 labourers rescued from brick kiln in TN

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Thirty-three bonded labourers were rescued from a brick kiln in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu,official sources said on Sunday. The kiln owner,Moorthy,had kept labourers in his custody and refused to free them. As an immediate relief,the district officials have given each of them Rs 1,000.

Three of family shot dead in Jharkhand

Gumla: Three members of a family were killed and another was injured by some unidentified men in Gumla district in Jharkhand,the police said on Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday night at Sehaltetartoli area when a group of armed assailants barged into the house of Jagdish Yadav and killed him,his wife Sumitra Devi,and cousin Jaipal Yadav. Jagdish’s mother-in-law Bati Devi was admitted to a hospital with serious injuries,they said. The police claimed that a land dispute could be the cause behind the killings.

Man burnt to death by in-laws in Bihar

JAMUI: A man was burnt to death allegedly by his in-laws at their house in Mahraidih village in Bihar’s Jamui district,the police said on Sunday. Guddu Ramani (22) was set on fire allegedly by his in-laws at their house on Saturday night after he had a quarrel with his wife,Podina Devi. The in-laws have,however,denied the charge and claimed that Ramani was burnt to death in an accidental fire in the house.

5-year-old raped in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 15-year-old boy in Badgam district on Saturday. The police said on Sunday that the teenage boy,a resident of Beerwah area,has been arrested.
