Principal beats student for not wearing shoes
SALEM (TN): A principal of a private matriculation school here has been booked for allegedly beating a student of class XII,for not wearing shoes to class,the police said on Thursday. A case has been registered against the principal under the Sections 323 and 341 of the IPC. The student,undergoing treatment in a government hospital here,said the principal had hit his hands and legs with a stick besides slapping him.
One held for giving SIM cards to LeT man
KOCHI: The police have arrested Deepa Cherian (31),who had allegedly handed over SIM cards to jailed Lashkar operative and Bangalore serial blasts accused T Nazir,for making international calls from jail. Deepa alias Shahina had allegedly given SIM cards to one Noushad in Ernakulam sub jail during her visit,who had later handed them over to Nazir. Probe is on to ascertain who Nazir spoke to using the SIM cards.
Court allows Jaitly to retain passport
New Delhi: The court of Special CBI Judge Kanwaljeet Arora on Thursday allowed former Samata Party President Jaya Jaitly,under trial for allegedly taking bribe to recommend a foreign firm for a defence deal in 2000,to permanently retain her passport. The court also allowed Jaitly to travel to Kathmandu for a conference on womens issues on July 17. Jaitly’s passport had been seized during the CBI probe.
Cops seek time to file report on Bhushan
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Thursday sought extension of time to file its action-taken-report on a complaint of criminal case lodged against lawyer and team Anna member Prashant Bhushan for supporting plebiscite in J&K and demanding of withdrawal of the Army from there. The court allowed it time till September 3 to file the report. The complaint against Bhushan was filed by law student Vibhor Anand.
