Court rejects Kalmadi’s plea to visit Pune

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Thursday dismissed sacked CWG Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi’s plea seeking exemption from appearance before the court on February 3 and 4 in order to visit Pune for a medical check-up and to meet his family members. Special Judge Talwant Singh rejected the plea on the ground that he was earlier allowed to go to Pune for a day but failed to avail the opportunity.

RANCHI: A special CBI court on Thursday sentenced 26 accused in a multi-crore fodder scam case relating to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 67.5 lakh from Sahebgunj Treasury in the 1990s. Judge G K Singh sentenced all to imprisonment varying from one year to five years and slapped a fine of Rs10,000 to Rs 6 lakh each.

Bengal scam: IAS officers remanded

Kolkata: A Kolkata court on Thursday sent Debaditya Chakraborty and R M Jamir to police custody for three days,a day after they were arrested for their alleged involvement in a Rs 325-crore scam pertaining to export of iron ore to China in 2004-05. Jamir,who has already retired,and Chakraborty,now additional secretary,were directors of the West Bengal Essential Commodities Services Corporation when the alleged scam took place.
