Bhanwari murder: Bishnoi declared proclaimed offender

Jodhpur: A CBI court on Monday declared Indra Bishnoi,one of the main accused in the abduction and murder of midwife Bhanwari Devi,a proclaimed offender. The CBI had petitioned the court to get Bishnoi declared a proclaimed offender after its five-month effort — and the announcement of a Rs 5 lakh reward for any credible information about her — came to a naught. The CBI has also filed a contempt petition against Indra Bishnoi in the High Court,which is coming up for hearing soon.

Five of family found dead in locked room

KOLKATA: Five members of a family were found dead in a locked room of their flat where a fire broke out on Monday. The charred bodies of Supratim Bose,who ran a computer business,his father Sudesh Bose,wife Sangeeta and two daughters,Sarani and Saheli,were found in his flat in the three-storey Gangotri Apartment,police said. Sangeeta’s body bore a head injury and all the bodies were found lying on the floor. Neighbours informed the police after hearing a loud sound,following which a fire broke out.

Oldest Arunachal daily office attacked

ITANAGAR: A group of 10 youths vandalised the office of The Arunachal Times,the oldest daily in the state,on Sunday night. No employee was,however,physically harmed. Chief Minister Nabam Tuki,who is in Delhi,has issued direction to his political secretary Bamang Tago and additional PRO Rup Jyoti Pater to look into the matter.

Bathani Tola: HC sets aside death for three

PATNA: The Patna High Court on Monday set aside the death sentence awarded to three persons and life imprisonment to 20 others in the case related to the July 1996 Bathani Tola carnage in Bihar. A division bench allowed the appeals against the conviction order on the ground that the prosecution failed to prove the involvement of the appellants in the crime beyond reasonable doubt.

Three charred to death in Assam

GUWAHATI: Three persons were charred to death while 20 sustained serious burns when a deluxe night bus collided head-on with a trailer truck at Bosagaon,close to Kaziranga National Park,of Monday.

PAC constable,son held for murder

LUCKNOW: PAC head constable Kishan Lal and his son were arrested on Monday for allegedly killing a youth in Moradabad on Sunday night. The victim reportedly had an affair with Lal’s daughter. SP Mahendra Yadav said Aditya,21,had gone to meet the girl at the staff quarters of the 23 battalion PAC campus when he was killed. Aditya and the girl studied in the same college.

ITBP personnel commits suicide

RAJNANDGAON: An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel on Monday committed suicide here,the police said. Pawandas of the 40th Batallion of ITBP shot himself dead with his service rifle,SP Sanjeev Shukla said. The reason is yet to be ascertained,the police said. Pawandas had joined duty after a 10-day leave for his daughter’s marriage.
