Captive coal block owners may have to continue paying 40 per cent premium on their tapering linkages from Coal India as the PSU’s board, which met on Wednesday, failed to take a decision on the issue.

This, despite the fact that power minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s has requested coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal to ask CIL to withdraw the premium being charged from block owners who have signed power purchase agreements (PPAs).

The power and the coal ministries have divergent opinions on the issue of compelling captive coal block owners to pay a 40 per cent premium on their tapering (reducing) linkages.
