Blazing Trail: Rajdhani Express pantry catches fire

The fire blocked traffic on the main Dibrugarh-Guwahati railway track for many hours,delaying several trains.

The pantry car of the 12423 Dibrugarh to New Delhi Rajdhani Express caught fire in the wee hours Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

Northeast Frontier Railway PRO Nripen Bhattacharyya said the fire broke out in the front pantry car around 3:30 am Tuesday following which the train was stopped at Dharamtul,a non-scheduled station,and other coaches were detached from it.

“While the staff on duty in the train tried to douse the fire,it was almost completely gutted after the coaches were detached,” the PRO said.

The fire blocked traffic on the main Dibrugarh-Guwahati railway track for several hours,delaying several trains. The Rajdhani Express,which had left Dibrugarh at 8:35 pm on Monday,reached Guwahati five hours late and left for New Delhi at 12 noon.
