Till Surya Pratap Shahi is busy managing his election, the UP BJPs affairs will be handled by Shiv Pratap Shukla, the state unit vice-president. This is routine according to the BJP,but what is rankling supporters of Yogi Adityanath is that Shukla belongs to a camp rivalling Yogis.
Yogi is already upset with the party and has not been campaigning. He is unhappy with the partys induction of Babu Singh Kushwaha.
Shahi is contesting from Pathardeva.
Shukla,a four-time MLA from Gorakhpur City, lost in 2002 when Yogi opposed his candidature. Yogi,in fact, fielded his own candidate,Radha Mohan Agarwal, who went on to win.
It seems the party has some way of selecting people who are anti-Yogi to manage the states affairs Ramapati Ram Tripathi,Surya Pratap Shahi and now Shiv Pratap Shukla, even if it is temporary, said a Yogi supporter in Gorakhpur.
It is an internal party decision and should not be hyped. The decision has been taken as Shahiji is busy with his own election, BJP spokesperson Haridwar Dubey said. He ascribed the choice of Shukla to his seniority.
