The BJP has suggested that the probe into the killing of Chhattisgarh Congress leaders by Naxals be conducted by a court-monitored SIT instead of Central government-controlled NIA.

“If someone is suggesting that there could be a political conspiracy behind these attacks, then it is better that it is investigated by an independent agency. I would suggest that the probe into the Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh should be conducted by a Special Investigation Team monitored by the Supreme Court,” Rajnath Singh told The Indian Express in response to a query regarding speculations of political conspiracy behind the attacks ahead of Assembly elections.

Singh’s suggestion comes despite the fact that the Raman Singh government has given a green signal putting the NIA on the job for a probe into the security failure and a team of the Central agency has reached the spot. Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had reportedly taken the consent of Chief Minister Raman Singh for transferring the case to the NIA on Monday.

Sources said the BJP’s anxieties flow from Congress leadership’s emphasis on “security lapses” instead of audacity of Naxal attack and fear that Central agencies could be used to put the state government in the dock ahead of Assembly polls.
