Finding fault with the ruling Congress for taking credit for CBI raids related to the alleged scam in coal block allocation, the BJP on Tuesday asserted that its unrelenting pressure on the government led to the raids. The party said the raids confirmed “wrongdoings” in coal block allocations.

“(Coal Minister) Sriprakash Jaiswal is citing the CBI raids to claim that action is being taken in this case. But this action is based on our complaint to the CVC. The government has nothing to do with it. The government still wants to take credit for it,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

The BJP,however, sought to project the CBI raids as first confirmation of irregularities in coal block allocations during the period when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was in-charge of the Coal Ministry.

“These raids also show that there was wrongdoing in the coal block allotments,” Javadekar said reiterating BJP’s demand for Prime Minister’s resignation and cancellation of coal block allotments to 142 private companies.

“The raids are being conducted against companies for five allotments for which Prime Minister put the final signature for coal block allotments as the coal minister. If this inquiry is pursued in right earnest it will reach the doorsteps of the Prime Minister. How can the CBI inquire against the Prime Minister who controls it. Prime Minister must resign,” Javadekar said.

Javadekar claimed that the answers to the unstarred questions related to the Union Coal Ministry have not been made public on the websites of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
