Rejecting Rahul Gandhi’s charge of BJP delaying the passage of food guarantee legislation, the BJP Friday blamed the ruling Congress for delay in the law’s passage and reminded that BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh has enacted such a law.

“Congress is in the habit of blaming BJP. Rahul Gandhi’s charge is absolute rubbish. Instead of blaming others,Congress should blame itself for non-passage of the Food Security Bill,” said BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar. He said had the Congress conceded to the opposition demand for resignation of Ashwani Kumar and Pawan Bansal in time,Parliament could have discussed and passed the Bill.

He noted that Chhattisgarh’s food guarantee legislation was superior to the UPA’s proposed legislation and the Congress should “emulate” it. “If the Congress has real concern for the poor it should emulate the Chhattisgarh Food Security Act,which ensures more coverage, more foodgrain and less cost to poor,” he said.
