Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha today raised the issue of poor road, rail and air facilities in Patna and demanded a special package from the Centre for augmentation of basic infrastructure.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, the BJP Lok Sabha member from Patna Sahib, said Patna Airport is functioning in a “dangerous” condition due to short runway and suggested that it should be extended to avoid any Mangalore-type air crash.

The traffic, both individual as well tourists, have increased manifold at Patna airport, but there is no proper sitting place for passengers,he said.

Sinha said the Environment ministry has been raising objections over cutting of trees in the nearby Sanjay Gandhi Botanical Garden where there is possibility of expansion of airport. “We have to decide our priority whether lives of human beings are more important than trees,” he said.

He said the UPA government’s promise of upgrading Patna railway station to international standard is nowhere to be seen.

Besides, the construction of a new road-cum-rail bridge over river Ganga at Digha, the foundation of which was laid by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2002,is still hanging fire,he said.

The proposed bridge is important to take load out of the existing Gandhi setu over Ganga which is bearing heavy traffic and is in a poor condition.

Sinha’s drew support from party colleague Hukumdeo Narayan Yadav and former Union minister and RJD member Raghuvansh Prasad Singh.
