Bihar loan fraud: 3 bank managers,2 clerks held

The Araria police have arrested three branch managers of a bank and two head clerks in connection with a 2009 case of a Rs 15 crore Kisan Credit Card loan fraud. The loans were given on the basis of forged documents in connivance with middlemen.

In a late night operation on Wednesday across Bhagalpur,Katihar,Purnia and Araria,police teams first arrested Ramashankar Jaiswal,branch manger with the Central Bank of India at Katihar,from Purnia. He faces a case of fraud and criminal conspiracy as the then manager of the bank’s Gairki branch. Jaiswal has a house worth over Rs 1.5 crore in Patna,besides four SUVs.

The police also arrested the then Palasi branch manager of the bank,Shambhunath Thakur,from Bhagalpur. He is now posted at Jamalpur. Chandraweshwar Kumar Sinha,posted in Kursaila,is the third manager to be arrested,besides two clerks.

Araria SP Shivdeep W Lande said: “All the accused are in judicial custody. The police have enough proof of these people amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.” The police are also looking for former SBI manager,Urlaha,Mukesh Ranjan Verma.
