Playing the much-anticipated Extremely Backward Caste (EBC) card for Narendra Modi,Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday said BJP was the only national party that had always promoted OBC and EBC leadership. In an obvious dig at JD (U),Sushil said that “allies had no veto power” over PM candidate choice.

Addressing the EBC forum of the party here,he said,“BJP has always promoted OBC leadership in the party. We have examples of Narendra Modi,Uma Bharati and Shivraj Singh Chauhan.” Sources said the party had got feelers from grassroots workers to subtly play EBC card of Modi to tap the vote banks of RJD and JD (U).

He said it was the sole prerogative of BJP parliamentary board to take a final call on NDA PM choice. “Allies must have not have veto power over such decision,” said Sushil. He also praised Modi’s leadership saying Gujarat did not witness a single riot in last 12 years.

Reiterating the party’s “secular credentials”,he said the Madhya Pradesh government had built Haj Bhavan in recent years. Sushil Modi’s statement is being taken as a response to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar completely being “non-committal on alliance”.

Nitish had recently said at Rajgir that he was ready to lose government but would not compromise with secular credentials of the party.

The Chief Minister had also met all four Congress MLAs last week during the wedding of Bahadurganj Congress MLA Mohammed Tausif Alam.
