Slain Indian student Anuj Bidve’s body will be brought to Mumbai on January 7 in a British Airways flight, sources in the Indian High Commission in the UK said on Thursday.

Bidve’s family — his parents and brother-in-law — is currently in the UK and will be returning on the same flight on Saturday.

Sources said that flight no BA 199,which will leave London at 9:25 pm on January 6,will reach Mumbai at 11.45 am on January 7. From there, the coffin will be taken to Pune by 6 pm on Saturday.

The Indian High Commission in the UK,which has made arrangements for the flight back, has been asked by South Block to ensure that the family is taken care of. “The Ministry of External Affairs is also willing to foot the air passage of the mortal remains,” a source said. Also, the MEA officials in Delhi are making arrangements for the transfer of the body from Mumbai to Pune.

Sources said that the family viewed his body for the first time at a funeral parlour, more than a week after Anuj Bidve was killed in an unprovoked attack in Salford.

The Consulate in Birmingham has been in touch with the Lancaster university, and has convinced them to return his tuition fees.

The family will return to London tomorrow after praying at the crime spot in the Ordsall area of Salford.

Kiaran Stapleton, from Ordsall, has been charged with his murder and remanded in custody until a plea and case management hearing on March 20.

Three other people arrested on suspicion of Bidve’s murder have been granted bail until March pending further inquiries. A fourth man, aged 19,had his bail cancelled.
