Bid to loot petrol pump foiled,seven arrested

The anti-extortion cell of Pune police crime branch has arrested seven members of a gang for conspiring to attack and loot a petrol pump in Market Yard area.

The arrested are Ganesh alias Pradeep Balasaheb Gade (20) of Balajinagar,Rajesh Pupul alias Chor Raja (22) of Ambegaon,Rajesh Kamble (24) of Hadapsar,Rohidas alias Pintya Gupte (28) of Dhayrigaon,Asif Badshah Shaikh (18) of Ganesh Peth,Kiran Prakash Gaikwad (23) of Wadgaon Budruk and Rahul Keshav Shinde (27) of Balajinagar.

The crime branch team,on basis of a tip-off,arrested the suspects from the parking lot of Apsara Theatre near Market Yard. It also recovered a pistol,two live cartridges,a sattur knife,cycle chain,three motorcycles and mobile phone handsets from them.

Inspector Kishor Jadhav of the anti-extortion cell said the suspects had gathered at the spot for looting a petrol pump. “Gade,Pupul,Kamble and Gupte are history-sheeters. Gade has seven offences against his name. He was wanted in two crimes registered at Swargate and Hadapsar police stations. Pupul has committed five crimes. He was wanted in three cases registered at Hadapsar and Sangvi police stations.”

He added,“Gade has links with weapon dealer Prakash Choudhary,who was arrested for the murder of Arun Gawli aide Shekhar Waghmare at Shivajinagar last month.”

Police have booked the suspects under Section 399 (attempting dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code and under Arms Act. The complaint has been registered at Swargate police station. They alleged that the gang also had plans to kill one of those involved in the murder of a common friend,Neeraj Moremare,in Haveli in November 2008.
