Deputy Chief Minister Chagan Bhujbal visited Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray at his Bandra residence on Saturday evening and had dinner with him. According to sources, the senior Thackeray extended Bhujbal a dinner invitation when the latter made a courtesy call.
The meeting seems to be a further step in their continuing efforts towards reconciliation. Bhujbal,a former Shiv Sainik, has not stopped mincing words against the Sena.
However,he may be carrying on with the talks in the wake of the recent meeting between Thackeray and NCP president Sharad Pawar,as he is now with the NCP. In a recent editorial in Saamna,Bal Thackeray had praised Bhujbal while attacking former Shiv Sainik Narayan Rane. On Bal Thackerays 80th birthday on January 23,Bhujbal had sent him a bouquet and an expensive gift.
Bhujbal had earlier filed a defamation case against Sena mouthpiece Saamna and Bal Thackeray after the publication of articles against him in 1997. The articles were written following a police firing incident at Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar in Ghatkopar. After a decade-long legal process,Bhujbal withdrew the case late last year.
