Grammy-winner Enrique Iglesias, who ruled the 90s with his pop anthems, will perform in the Capital this Friday.
Women, who were girls in the 90s,can get ready to scream and swoon,as Latin musician Enrique Hero Iglesias and his pelvic moves are all set to shake the Capital on Friday for the Micromax Enrique Iglesias Tour. His songs may sound a little outdated now, corny even, but those who lost their breath waiting for his albums at that time should not have a problem. After all,the Grammy-winners painfully handsome looks not only had the women hysterical and the devoted men in their lives astounded,he also dethroned Latin legend Ricky Martin for quite a while.
This man was singing songs such as Rhythm Divine,Hero and Love to See You Cry,and had the world,at least the female half of it,smitten and in love with him. With Enrique,Spanish-English pop reared its head and we knew it was here to stay. Now,ready for his third trip to India,Enrique says that India is one place where he has always wanted to come back. Ive been looking forward to this trip for years and trying to come back for a while. I was just waiting for the right opportunity. Besides the show,Im looking forward to the Indian fans who are so amazing,as well as great food, says the singer in an email interview.
For somebody who has sold over 100 million records, had a cult status and ruled the billboards as the King of Latin Pop,Iglesias says the secret to all of it is staying passionate about what he does. I love singing, touring and writing new music. So,there is no need for me to take long breaks like some artistes do,because its what I love. I think this helps, says Enrique, who is the son of famous Spanish singer Julio Iglesias.
But soon enough, the world did outgrow his music. The music that we heard in the last few years was floating somewhere between the Hero-era Enrique and the modern-pop tempo of today, which sometimes killed the sound of his own style the old-school pop that was away from too much mixing and matching and far away from collaborations. But Enrique says that it cant be about the same old pop ballads all the time. I think I am just exploring new ideas and sounds. After all,I wouldnt want to write the same-style songs over decades. I love exploring new styles and just writing what I feel like writing and not worrying about the style. I like to think Ive evolved into a name that my fans can trust. They have grown with me after all, he says.
As for the Delhi gig,he wants to have an improvised set but promises that fans will get a good mix of old and new hits. Currently working on his 10th studio album that will be out next year,Enrique is hoping for a career revival. For others attending,it will be teenage fantasies coming alive.
Enrique Iglesias will perform at HUDA Grounds,Gurgaon,on October 19. For tickets, log on to http://www.bookmyshow.com
