The upcoming elections have brought out the best, and the worst, from rival parties in their ad campaigns.

Till the code of conduct came into effect, the government ran print ads highlighting its work in various sectors, and sometimes comparing it with what happened during the previous regime. Now,it is the ruling party,SAD,that is giving the final touches to new ads.

The Congress, meanwhile, has come out with a series of catchy ads and is preparing more. Some of these have already offended the SAD with references to “kaka” (a word that means a boy in Punjabi) because Sukhbir Singh Badal is called “Kakaji” by party leaders.

Just as the government ads highlight a lack of development till it took over, the Congress ads attack the government. “Tell Jaggi what is delaying Punjab’s development,” reads one,in Punjabi. “It is because the government had fixed rates for corruption,” is the reply.

Both parties have roped in top advertising and PR companies. The SAD’s print, audio and video ads will focus less on Sukhbir than on his father, sources said. Video clips are being prepared praising the senior Badal; songs are being rendered showcasing the government’s flagship schemes.

The songs have been cleared by state poll authorities, the party said. These have been written by Babu Singh Mann, and sung by Masha Ali,Sabar Koti,Gursharan Singh and Rani Randeep. The print advertisements have been designed by Brandcurry.
